Soul Contracts, What are they? And how to break free from a destructive one…

As Souls before we incarnated here on planet earth we wrote the script of our life and with that we chose all the characters to play a role in our magnificent story. We made contracts with other souls to play our parents, siblings, friends, lovers, work colleagues, our offspring and even our pets. And the staring role of this epic story of beauty, triumph and strength goes to YOU, yes YOU! The experiences we have through relationships wether they be empowering or disempowering bring about profound soul growth, the lessons we learn particularly through romantic love relationships are the most life changing, because lets face it nothing gets our attention like LOVE! And that is why the main focus of this post will be around romantic love. Some soulmates are only meant to teach us valuable lessons and keep moving on through and some are meant to be in our lives for an extended time. The souls that come into our life for a brief time are the accelerators. They bring about fast tracked healing, clearing out any soul wounds from this life or past lives that haven’t yet been cleared or brought up to the conscious awareness. These soulmates also have the ability to help us complete karmic cycles and realise old patterns we may be still operating under. There are two types of soul contracts,

1. Constructive

2. Destructive

A soul contract that is ‘constructive’ in nature is as equally magnetising as a destructive soul contract, but its underlying essence is one of purity. Whereby the two individuals grow spiritually together to reach a higher understanding of who they are from a divine perspective. These contracts are not only romantic. Even though this is a positive connection it doesn’t suggest that there wont be challenging times but when the basis of the connection is pure and loving the soulmates are able to overcome challenges and obstacles together resulting in the two levelling up energetically. Signs you may be in a constructive soul contract are,

• The connection will flow relatively smoothly. It has a sense of ease.

• The soulmate will mirror your golden shadow to you, in other words inspire you to be a better person and discover all your hidden talents laying dormant inside of you.

• The connection is open, respectful and reciprocal. It allows both soul mates to reach a level of vulnerability that is deep and without judgment.

• The soulmate will lift you up not bring you down, there is no competition or jealousy between the two just celebration of each others accomplishments.

• The two soulmates will feel more connected to the universal flow, the divine and their individual and unified purpose in life.

• Both individuals feel a sense of being whole and complete on their own but even more empowered by being together as they complement each other.

  
  

A soul contract that is ‘destructive’ is born out of shared wounding or shared karma.The two individuals feel an extreme magnetic pull to one another and often because of this intense gravitation to each other confuse the connection for love. This soul contract is often referred to in spiritual circles as a karmic connection. The connection is one that takes the focus off the self and becomes all about the other person. Therefore deviating the individual away from their spiritual being-ness, purpose, goals, dreams and connection to the divine. This type of soul contract has a teacher student vibe as the soulmates trigger one another to heal their shadow side of their psyche. These types of soul contracts are very toxic and have the ability to completely destroy ones physical reality. This happens when one or both individuals are not learning the lessons and continue to perpetuate the karmic cycle. The whole reason for connecting to a soulmate that falls into this category of destruction is to become consciously aware of your patterns in love, learn the lessons, clear the energy and break the cycle. Many people fail to do the inner work and consequently stay stuck feeling trapped in a karmic loop. Characteristics of a destructive soul contract are,

• You feel drawn to this person even though intuitively you know they are not good for you.

• The connection comes in quick and ends just as quick. Although this isn’t always the case.

• The connection will be very lust based, whereby you meet the person and before even getting to know them the conversation turns very sexual and the connection goes to the next level quickly.

• The connection becomes obsessive, whereby this person takes control of your every thought and you feel consumed by their energy even when they are not in close proximity.

• You find yourself doing things out of character and accepting behaviour from the other that you wouldn’t usually tolerate.

• You find yourself making excuses or justifying the soulmates destructive behaviour to family and friends.

• You will find yourself putting the soulmate before yourself compromising your own happiness.

• You will find yourself trying to ‘fix’ the soulmate. Which is impossible, best leave that to the divine!

• You will find yourself feeling stuck not growing in other aspects of your life e.g.. Career, life purpose.

• Extreme confusion is experienced. The connection is very in and out with absolutely no stability. Which causes unstable emotions.

• The connection drains you of your personal power. Leaving you feeling disempowered, stuck and trapped.

• You will feel scattered in your energy, like you don’t have any control over yourself. Like your living in a mental prison. Overthinking constantly, trying to make sense of what you are feeling.

• Usually one will over give in the connection. Making the connection unbalanced.

The Physical, Mental, Spiritual Symptoms Of A Destructive Soul Contract

Physical The physical body feels weighed down by the negative dense energy of the connection. Resulting in tiredness, feeling drained and other physical symptoms. The body starts to mimic the toxicity of the connection. If the inner world is stuck and in a state of chaos due to not working through the karma then it starts to be mirrored out into the physical reality many times also resulting in a lack of financial resources, and living a happy and purposeful life in general.

Mental Confusion, obsession, sadness, delusion, indecision, depression.

Spiritual Instead of the person bringing you closer to who you truly are in a positive way, they lead you further away from your authentic self, your destined path and the divine.

Can a destructive or negative soul contract be broken?

Yes destructive or negative soul contracts can be broken. Once you have gone inside and done the inner work and healed, the connection will come to an automatic energetic close. Leaving you feeling disinterested in the soulmate and no longer feeling a pull to them. So you have two choices heal and keep it pushing or stay stuck and perpetuate the cycle. This is where it is important to make a firm decision and take back your personal power. Fear usually kicks in at this stage around making the wrong choice. I advise at this decision point you ask yourself some simple questions,

• Does this connection make me feel secure?

• Does this connection make me feel safe?

• Do I feel valued in this connection?

• Do I feel loved in this connection?

• Do I feel this connection brings out the best of me?

• Do I feel respected in this connection?

• Do I feel empowered in this connection?

• Does my physical body feel relaxed and at peace in this connection?

  
  

If you answered ‘No’ to most of these questions, then it may be time for you to leave the connection and cut the cord.

The five steps to healing and breaking free from a destructive soul contract

1. Come to the understanding and acceptance after reflecting on the characteristics of the connection that you are in fact engaging in a destructive or negative soul contract. This can be a devastating realisation. When this clarity and radical acceptance is found you will finally feel freed from walking around in a haze of confusion and delusion. Which is often felt when interacting in these types of connections.

2. Harness your feminine energy and go inside to do the inner work. Intuitively work through the triggers and your patterns. Anything that caused an emotional charge or response in the connection will guide you to what needs to be worked on.

3. Once all the deep watery emotional healing is done, activate your rational mind as it will be needed for step 4. Its very important to put your emotions to the side and not waiver in your energy. You’ve got this!

4. Harness your masculine energy by taking outward action to remove yourself from the connection. Steps you may take,

• Tie up any loose ends with the soulmate and physically leave the connection. Seek external assistance for this step if the connection is volatile or you feel unsafe.

• Practice absolute no contact and create strong boundaries in whatever way is needed.

• Get rid of all existing ties to the soulmate e.g. Social media, avoid places where you may bump into the person.

• In your own time get rid of photo’s or gifts. These items hold energy and therefore keep the connection alive or perpetuate nostalgia.

  
  

5. Finally after all the processing and actioning is done its now time to work with your higher self and the divine to cut the energetic cord between you and the soulmate. You can do this by calling in God, spirit, your spiritual team, Archangel Michael, go with whatever makes you feel safe and held in this process. An example you may like to use for your cord cutting ceremony,

'I call upon my Higher Self and the Divine to help me cut any and all energetic cords

between myself and ……….

These cords are now lovingly cut, healed, released and let go.'

(If you are able, try to imagine in your minds eye, the cord between yourself and the soulmate being cut)

Thank you, and so it is!

This five step process must be followed in order, unless you are in an abusive connection that is violent or unsafe, in that case remove yourself physically right away.

If you have already physically left the connection but still cannot seem to stop thinking about the soulmate this will mean that you have overlooked something in your inner work, if you are unable to do this inner work yourself seek professional assistance.

Finally, Soul contracts come into our lives for a reason and that is to grow us spiritually. Whether you are in a constructive soul contract or a destructive soul contract both have remarkable teachings. Unfortunately the later throws us a lot of painful lessons and flips our whole entire personal universe into chaos. Once you have done the inner work brilliant transformation of the self is evident. You will understand yourself on a more intimate level and love yourself more than you ever thought possible. And that is the exact time you will magnetise in your souls expression of true, divine love…
